Bio:

Stat..Value..DM
Psi……….9……..1
Alert……12…….2
Will………9……..1

DESCRIPTION: “Twitchy”, preoccupied, blunt, no comfortable in his own skin. Still very much locked into survival mode, ready to panic and bolt/hide/lash out at a moment’s notice – not completely stable. Very thin, but not emaciated anymore thanks to some excellent care and cooking and medical treatment. Nondescript, forgettable unless you look him in the eyes – they are very haunted.

HISTORY: He doesn’t know. His life, as far back as he can actually remember, began about 3 months ago when he and Alice escaped. He’s been running with her ever since.

He’s a pusher – he plants thoughts into other people’s brains making them think these are their own thoughts. Alice is…a lot of things, including unstable. She has many psi talents and many personalities and depends on him for protection and survival, and he is utterly devoted to her well being.

Alice has told him some things he asked her to remember for him, but he doesn’t remember these things directly. He knows they were held in a “facility” run by Blue Sun, staffed with people who had blue hands, that they did terrible things to Alice, and did drug experiments on him – Alice told him this. Alice also told him that he can’t remember anything because he pushed himself to forget and make himself small – pushed himself really hard – so that they couldn’t trace him. He didn’t even know his own name, but the word trace kept running through his head, so that’s what he called himself and it’s how Alice knows him.

He has flashbacks – they are bad. They are mostly memories he thinks, sometimes not – sometimes they are other things, but he can’t get a grip on what they are. He says odd things, but doesn’t know he does it. He won’t use his powers unless he senses he has to for the protection of himself or Alice, though he’s starting to grow out of this basic need level. His personality is continuing to evolve and change, strange quirks come and go.

HISTORY – Prior To Reintegration: He doesn’t know. His life, as far back as he can actually remember, began about 3 months ago when he and Alice escaped. He’s been running with her ever since.

HISTORY – Post-Reintegration: Childhood – Grew up on Isabel. He’s been a pusher as long as he can remember. His parents were completely bent to his will for as long as he can remember. He got what he wanted when he wanted it and his parents went to extraordinary lengths to meet his demands. An introverted child, and easily amused by the Vid/TV, it wasn’t that difficult to maintain the household for his parents until he began to get older. By the time he was seven he had become extremely demanding, with no concept of value, but just knowing he wanted. He pushed his parents to get him anything that caught his eye on the Vid resulting in his father’s arrest. His father was sent to Di Yu prison world where he died at some point in Rhett’s teens.

Since his mom couldn’t get him everything he wanted no matter how hard he pushed her (resulting in severe damage to her personality and basically turning her into a high functioning zombie) he began to push others to fetch for him. He wasn’t careful (had no concept of careful) and in short order found himself running from a lynch mob of religious fanatics. After 3 of these incidents he began to piece together the concept of caution. Having watched a LOT of Vid/TV he had picked up the concept of the scam, and started experimenting with them at the age of 8.

He came through his childhood with no concept of right or wrong, consequences for his actions, only rudimentary reading and math skills, and no social skills. His values consisted of wanting and getting, who he could manipulate to best value, and women starting at the age of 12 when he discovered he could have any of them that he wanted any time he wanted them.

He left zombie mom and home at 15 when she became so dysfunctional that she didn’t respond to him no matter how hard he pushed her. He had a weird feeling he couldn’t identify when he realized this (later discovered to be guilt), but it passed quickly as he made his way out into the world. He found many families happy to take him in and care for him, and he lived with a variety of them for the next 3 years. He expanded his social awareness considerably during this time, even attending school here and there for a few days at a time. He never stopped running and refining his scams.

He had developed a favorite scam that he ran almost daily by the time he was 18. He was stand outside of a bank, dressed as a Shepherd, collecting “donations”. Early into this scam the Shepherds Abby was called, and a Senior Shepherd came to visit Rhett outside the bank, then invited him back to the Abby. The next day Rhett was outside the bank again, the Abby was again called, and the Abby confirmed that Rhett was indeed there collecting on the Abby’s behalf. From that time on, when Rhett set up in a new town, he first visited the Abby to “secure” their blessing. It wasn’t long before he had “discussions” with the bank manager and moved from the sidewalk to the lobby of the bank. “Working” 2-3 hours a day he was able to collect substantial donations from the bank patrons. After a week or so he moved to a new city, found a new family, introduced himself at a new Abby, and found a nice bank to solicit donations at.

Before he was able to get arrested or collapse the banking system, he came to the notice of “Boss”. Casing the bank Boss and his crew noticed this creepy little Shepherd that they had seen at two other banks they were checking out. Both those banks looked lucrative, but turned out to have low cash in the vault when they actually hit it. The banks they had hit where they didn’t see the Shepherd were much more lucrative, and they put 2 & 2 together. Having exhausted his abilities while collecting donations, he was easy to capture when he left the bank at the end of his “work day”, tossed into the equivalent of an unmarked white van, and taken to a stinky, empty warehouse for a conversation. The found roughly $35,000.00 on his person, cause for celebration, then started asking him questions about how he was getting people to donate. Was this a money laundering operation? Who was he working for? Were the Shepherds running a scam? The questions went on and on, and the situation got more and more tense. Rhett was shocked when they actually hit (slapped) him for the first time, panicked, and pushed Boss with his last strength to “protect him” before passing out.

Waking up on a couch in the warehouse office, Boss and the crew gathered around him, he was untied and unharmed, and Boss assured him that he was safe and not going to be harmed. Then Boss asked him how he had done that, made him want to keep Rhett safe. Not knowing how else to explain it, he recalled a cartoon he had seen as a boy where the villain had “super hypnosis powers” and gave that explanation for what he could do. They demanded he demonstrate this ability, so he gave some strong suggestions (all he had the energy to do at the moment) to Billy, they youngest member of the Crew, and made him act like a monkey, a chicken, and a hooker, at which point everyone in the room became uncomfortable and they asked Rhett to stop.

Seeing obvious advantages, Boss invited Rhett to join the Crew and he embarked on his education into professional thievery. During this time Boss set up and ran a complex swindle on Isabel using Rhett at the sticking points to make everything seem legit for a local lottery scheme. After a couple of winners, making them a little money and getting the word out, they expanded to a continent-wide scheme, took the money and disappeared offworld.

Boss, aka Raul Sinclair, aka Terrance Redmann, aka Selim Mustafa, real name unknown, found Rhett’s usefulness limiting due to his poor education and took it upon himself to have Rhett tutored in reading, writing, and basic arithmetic, as well as a solid grounding in the basics of human behavior and solid social skills. Rhett was a hard sell, but demonstrating how this was the path that would allow him to get all the things that he wanted, and feeling peer pressure from the Crew and socially awkward, he agreed and became a somewhat interested student.

Over the next 4 years did variety of mid-level crimes with Boss, looking for the easy, obvious, low-risk moderate to high payoff jobs. Towards the end of this period, the entire Crew was arrested, Boss was killed (Rhett KO’d), and hauled into custody on Conrad. After 2 guards were caught trying to get Rhett out, and one detective was videotaped during an interrogation of Rhett also trying to free him, Rhett was put into isolation with a case of emergency rations and specialist help was called for.

A Dr. Sandra Keller responded to assist the authorities with their dilemma. They gassed Rhett and cuffed him to a chair in an interrogation room where he awoke to Dr. Keller’s stern demeanor and humorless face. She had the darkest aura (almost black) that Rhett had ever seen. She explained to the detectives watching that she was using an experimental technique that would possibly suppress, but likely wipe, his ability to do whatever it is that he’d been doing to them, so that they could work with him like any other prisoner. Panicking again, he lashed out to the nearest mind he could find, which oddly to him wasn’t Dr. Keller, but a detective watching from behind the big mirror. The detective began shooting, killing all in the observation booth with him and wounding Dr. Keller when he charged into the interrogation room. He took Rhett out a back door in the confusion, got him into an unmarked vehicles and Rhett fled captivity. After a couple of weeks of holing up with some rather beautiful young women, he made his way to the starport and found “passage” off planet with all of the ill-gotten gains the he could find.

Following Boss’s death, Rhett became “Boss” of his own Crew and embarked on a 4 year theft spree. The first 2 years were very profitable, but in the third year he was sold out by a member on his crew who tried to set him up but failed. However, Rhett found he had a price on his head from Blue Sun of all places. It eventually became too difficult to continue working dirtside regardless of where he traveled, so he looked for another avenue.

Finding a great opportunity to take ownership of a ship, a modified Lightening transport ship named the Lucy Mae and modified with hidden EM cannons, he and his Crew shifted into piracy for next 4 years. Operating in the border and rim worlds, and hiding out on Paquin, bounty hunters eventually discerned predictable patterns, set a trap for them, disabling the ship and calling Blue Sun operatives with the ship location (they had been strongly advised to NOT attempt to apprehend). Blue Sun operatives showed up, injected a knockout gas into the disabled transport, boarded, and took Rhett captive. The destroyed the bounty hunters, then the Lucy Mae, and flew away with their prize.

Rhett was a guest of Blue Sun on Osiris for the next 2 years, enjoying fun drugs and finding ways to be useful so that they wouldn’t decide to cut the “special” part out of his brain and implant it into a mender as he’d seen happen in to many other actives. He carried out his assignments, performing various pushing experiments, many of them repeated several times while he was medicated with different drugs. He was tested to discover what he could and couldn’t do and the limits of his capabilities. On mender in particular, Subject 52 (also known as Odette) was selected for him to perform repeated pushes on, aimed and creating deep trust in an active. He eventually was successful, though how successful was difficult to determine due to her uneven mental state. 2 additional actives were brought in for him to begin working with, Subject 812, a burner (pyrokinetic), and subject 626, a mover (telekinetic).

He had been working with them for just over 2 months and they, Subject 52 (aka Alice), and he were being moved to another facility when an opportunity to breakout presented itself. Things are still sketchy at this point for him, but he knows:
1. They were in a shuttle.
2. The burner and mover killed their guards.
3. Trace used the shuttle to get them away.
4. While trying to get away after they landed the shuttle, the Burner and Mover were recaptured and there was nothing he could do about it.
5. He ran with Alice and was very lucky to get them both hidden in a nasty container of some kind on a ship headed for Persephone.
6. On Persephone, after a couple of close calls, he realized he was being tracked by watchers and lookers who were seeing his “shine”. Realizing that the only way to avoid them was to hide himself so deeply that the lookers couldn’t see him and the watchers couldn’t track him, he buried his “self” inside himself, dampening down his “shine”, and hiding his identity even from himself so that he would become completely unpredictable. He told/pushed certain information to/into Alice to tell him afterwards at need. He also devised an unlock code that would restore him that he first pushed into himself and intended to push deep into Alice. Before that could happen, Alice screamed, “Watchers! They found you!”, and perceiving he had no choice, he pushed Rhett Crawford into temporary oblivion.
7. There are a lot of gaps here as they ran and hid and survived until they were rescued.
